This week, we take a look at the origins of Broadview Heights’ name, which reflects the area’s striking topography. The city’s hilly landscape features some of the highest elevations in Cuyahoga County, reaching approximately 1,275 feet above sea level. Nestled about 15 miles south of downtown Cleveland, Broadview Heights spans roughly 13 square miles, offering a mix of natural beauty and community charm.
The region’s history dates back to 1811, when surveyor Seth Paine became the first white settler in the area. At that time, the land was part of Brecksville Township, marking the beginning of a journey that would shape the city into what it is today. These early roots continue to influence Broadview Heights’ character and connection to its past.
